Is the handicap index listed on here legitimate? I mean is it USGA approved? If I was to play in a tournament, would they accept my handicap index listed on this site or would I have to register it at a USGA sanctioned site? I just want to make sure that if I'm tracking it here, it will work for tournament purposes. Any help/thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

this site uses the same calculations as the USGA, but you still have to belong to a club with a handicap committee to maintain an official handicap. Another requirement of golf clubs is that the members have the opportunity to play together often (even if the club is a type three online golf club). For these two reasons your handicap on this site is technically not official. But it probably reads the same as any handicap committee would calculate.
