gps rangefinders

Has anyone tried the igolf neo rangefinder?  It retails for $149 which is a lot less than the other gps units.

Igolf Neo

I have one and I couldn't be happier. It's spot-on accurate. I have yet to look for a course and find they don't have it. The membership is set-up well. $35 gets you 100 courses and they are stored on your computer, so essentially you own them. I would recommend it.

igolf neo

I like the neo very much. For 1/2 the price of other gps golf devices it delivers basic yardage information as well as recording the distance of each of your shots....and it is conveniently small in size.

The neo allows you to map your favorite courses yourself with no need for a subscription.  Most people will want to buy a one year subscription for $35, which allows you to download 100 courses within the first year.  No need to continue the annual membership unless you decide you need more courses in future years.  Other devices require you to continue to pay an annual fee for as long as you own their device.

Once you have downloaded the course maps to your computer, they are yours to keep.  The igolf neo only holds 10 courses at a time, so you use your computer to rotate in and out of the Neo whatever courses you need in the immediate future.  If you need to re-download a course, it is not counted against your 100.   I live in Southern California and I have yet to find a course that is not available for download.  If you do find a course which is not available for download, you can request the course be mapped and it be added to those available.

The Sync software CD that ships with the device (early 2009) is being replaced by a beta version available to subscription members for download from the igolf web site.   I am using the beta version and it seems pretty much bug free.  My only problems so far has been when I have renamed the course file name.  This seems to inhibit moving the information back and forth between the neo and my computer.  To solve the problem I just deleted the renamed course and re-downloaded it again and left the name unchanged.

The supplied belt clip holder is flimsy and not worth using.  Go to your local electronics store and buy a holder for a small cell phone.  The neo is exactly the same size.  Or...it is small enough to just carry it in your pants pocket without inhibiting your golf swing.

After loading the device with some course maps, it is simple to use.  When you get to the course, turn it on and let it find the gps satellites.  Select "Play Golf" and select the course you want to play.  It starts you off on hole 1, and as you move through the round you hit the up arrow to move to the next hole.  If you want to record your shot distance, you hit the shot button once to establish your starting point, and hit it again when you get to your ball.  The neo will read out the distance of your shot, while still displaying the distance to the center of the hole.

This device will appeal to golfers who want basic yardage information rather than a splashy showy gee-whiz device to whip out of their bag to impress the other members of their foursome.   The neo is basic, but it gets the job done.

GPS range finders

I bought a GolfLogix GPS. It seemed to take forever to get it but once I got it I have enjoyed it very much. I know that I still have to hit the shot but it has improved my game,my handicap has dropped from a 19 to a 15.

Golf Buddy

I recently got a golf buddy as a present.  I really like knowing the distances to greens and other hazards.  Anyone else used this device, if so let me know what your experience has been so far.
