My newest addition this yr is a Total Lt knee replacement at the end of 08. Last yr I only playes four rounds total due to a painful left knee which had develope Osteo Arthritis very quicky at the close of 07. After several steriod and Synvisc injection and then a OA brace I was no further ahead and loosing ground rapicly. With no hope of significant improvement to a very painful left knee I made up my mind to get it replaced.
It's been 3 1/2 months now and with daily exercise I have been able to come back to the playing the game. It no longer hurts and I've returned to the driving range to find my swing. It's going to take some time and work...but at this point it's been worth it.
The one thing I have learn and heard from several other patients is that the waited too long and they were referring to years and years of limping and pain....I only waited one and that was way to long.
I've have also talked to a number of patients who have not been as lucky. Pick and choose your surgeon very carefully.....do your home work and be prepared to work hard to. Next to the selection of your surgeon, Rehab is the most important factor in one's recovery...you have to grin and work through it....it gets better.....slowly but continues to improve. You have to look for the little things that you can now do veres the ones you can't. So you'll be to the point of seeing things you couldn't do before the surgery ...that's when you'll begin to wonder why you waited so long. Just my two cents but a very happy two cents. JH

Need a Scope
Last August I seriously injured my right knee when I feel through a 2x4 deck and my knee stopped my fall. It was a nightmare and my Dr. tried all sorts of treatments including draining, cortizone, etc. I finally got an MRI and the specialist said I needed a scope but he was booked for 2 yrs. He explained my bursa was damaged and like you the cartilage was damaged and ostio had rushed in. I did winter golf once a week over the winter and started a fitness program but am still waiting for the scope. I hope I don't have the same recovery issues you have had. My surgeon told me he would actually make me better than when I hurt myself but I would be kidding myself if I thought I would be any better than 90%. Anyway good to read you are coming along and like I said I hope mine is a lot faster than yours.
