Free GPS???

Has/does anyone use free mapping software with their cell phone (i.e. http://www.bbgpsgolf.com/ ) instead of an overpriced GPS?

Like most people, I use a cell phone.  Mine doesn't have GPS, but my contract will be up soon and I will probably get a Blackberry or iPhone - which both have GPS.  Common sense would say, why purchase a golf GPS for hundreds of dollars - with monthly/download fees if my cell phone does the same thing for FREE!?  I mean, I'm paying a monthly fee for phone service whether I golf or not.

Anybody have experience with this?

Google Maps comes on a

Google Maps comes on a Blackberry.  I use an 8830, but it's not very accurate in pinpointing your exact location.  Sometimes it'll show you a 1/4 mile off of where you actually are. I do pay $9.95 for Sprint Navigation on the phone, which is great if you know exactly where you want to go and not just use a map.

is a great tool and use it all the time! Every month there are more and more additions that improve the app. I would start with that tool and I am sure it will meet your needs. Plus it is free!

(I have also started a post on this as well)

I use a program called FreeGolf (freegolf.com) on my phone and it works great! no need to buy a seperate unit..

I have a pearl 8130 and i use bbgps all the time. It is very easy to use and has alot of courses on there already over 7000. I have had to map my own course and it is very simple to do on the computer and even from the phone itself. The program is free but if you like it there is a donation option which goes to upgrades and support. Happy golfing.
